Study Hotel To Be Built Close To The Obama Presidential Center

Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle showed the design of the planned Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park. Plans show that it will be composed of three buildings that will highlight an eye-catching museum. A block away, a new 180-room hotel will be built on the place that used to be occupied by Hyde Park Day School at the University of Chicago.

The hotel which will be known as The Study at the University of Chicago will be constructed on a 70,000 square foot area at the corner of 60th Street and Dorchester Avenue, a place that has been very quiet every since the Hyde Park Day School and Orthogenic School left the building in 2014. The soon-to-be built hotel will be a hub of activity because it will include a 1,500 square foot fitness center, a meeting rooms on a 2,200 square feet area and an 85-set bar and restaurant.

The university has already announced plans for the hotel last year but only a few details were provided. Plans that were released showed 15-story tower that will replace all the buildings. The hotel is not owned by the university because it is privately developed by Hospitality 3, a New York City firm that has built hotels in the campus of the Yale University and the University City in Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, the Obama PresidentialCenteris expected to transform the community into a vibrant setting similar to Millennium Park. The center will not just be a building; it will be a park where people could hold barbeques, where children can play and where activity will spill out to the nearby restaurants and stores.

The museum which will be the tallest among the 3 structures will include exhibition space as well as education and meeting rooms. The center will incorporate the best of the indoors and outdoors of Jackson Park.
